The Cottle Church was an Anglican Church on the island of Nevis in 1822, built at the request of Thomas Cottle, a Nevisian lawyer, by the people he had enslaved. Cottle Church t was the first church on the island of Nevis which welcomed anyone to come and worship, including enslaved people. The next stop on your tour is the Golden Rock Inn. Golden Rock Inn was a former sugar estate dating back to the 1800s. The boutique property is near Nevis Peak with eleven guest rooms, private cottages and a restaurant. Montpelier history dates to 1687. Many epic battles were orchestrated from Montpelier. The Botanical Gardens are situated on land originally belonging to Montpelier Plantation. The five-acre gardens contain a variety of tropical plants whose origins span the globe and where the cascades, dolphin fountains, and water lilies will delight you. The Bath Hotel and Nevis Hot Springs stand as icons of both historical luxury and complex heritage. Constructed in 1778 by John Huggins, a prominent St. Kitts merchant, the Bath Hotel is celebrated as the first hotel in the Caribbean. The original bath house is no longer in use. The area around the springs has been maintained, allowing visitors to experience the natural benefits of these geothermal waters. Memorial Square commemorates all the Nevisian soldiers who died during World Wars I and II. Sunshine’s Beach Bar & Grill is well known for great food and a rum punch called the “Killer Bee. The stop on your tour is Nelson’s Lookout, where Lord Horatio Nelson’s men watched for the approach of French warships from Martinique or Guadeloupe. If the day is clear, the views of Redonda and Montserrat will be spectacular. You might even get a glimpse of Guadeloupe in the distance.
